Wherever I hang my cat.... that's my home.
So house hunting has taken up a lot of time.
A lot of time because the Oatham family have zero sense of direction, and a journey that should have taken us 30 mins, took an hour and a half. And we were late, and missed our first viewing appointment.
But the weekend ended well, we found a flat in Discovery Bay, made an offer, and it was accepted! It's bloody pricey to rent here, so as nice as it would be to have a spacious 3 bedroom/2 bath condo, we've gone down the sensible route, and got a 2 bed/1bath with balcony and big storage room (which is supposed to be the helpers room). It's in a gorgeous area, and only takes Matt 40 mins to commute to work. He doesn't even need to get the ferry. Cost of living here (so far) seems quite expensive. It's bigger than one of our flats at home in the UK (we have two - does that count as a 'property portfolio'??) so we still have lots of space. I'm excited to furnish it - cue a massive trip to Ikea, thank fook they deliver. We didn't bring much from home, just pictures, a lamp or two, and baby stuff, so we really don't have anything. We need a hoover, microwave, kettle, toaster, plates, utensils, cutlery, a bed, a sofa, a tv... you get the jist.
It's gonna be expensive.
Trying to be money savvy and find stuff second hand, but it's not like you can collect it, shove it in the back of the car and whizz off. They don't have cars on Discovery Bay. They have golf buggies. Or shuttle buses.
It's only on the 11th floor too (we're currently living on 25th floor, and I am giddy mostly)
We have an outdoor pool and a jacuzzi - which I hope to be using as much as possible, and after taking William for a paddle in the sea yesterday I think he is going to be a water baby, so cannot wait to take him swimming. He wanted to put is face in, which makes me nervous. Babies do know to hold their breath under water, right?
