Things to keep the boy entertained.

There are a few faddish things you will probably end up buying when you have a baby, then there are the must haves.

I thought I would just make a quick list of must have items that have seen me through the last 6 months.

Ergobaby Baby Carrier. When he's fussy, I wear him. Soothes him instantly and gets him off to sleep. I can't rave enough about baby carriers. I'm not a huge fan of wearing him so he's front facing (away from me) in public, as he can't turn in toward me for security, but he loves it in his carrier and this one will see him through to toddlerhood.

Sophie The Giraffe. When he gets going having a chew on Sophie, it sounds like someone is murdering Orville. But he loves it. And it sounds funny.

A jungle Gym for the floor. He's too old for the hanging dangly bits now, so I just use the mat. Which he just crawls or rolls off but it's good for sitting him on with some toys to entertain him for a few minutes.

A bouncer chair. Perfect for when you start weaning and they're too little for a highchair. This one is a rocker and has different seating positions so it's handy. It does however get really grubby, so best to buy one that either wipes clean, or the cover comes off to put in the wash.

I have just jumped on the Jumperoo bandwagon.... I wanted one when he was 3 months old but due to all the renovation going on at home it wasn't possible as they take up a bit of space. Now we are in HK however, I have just ordered one. And I think I may be a little more excited than he.

Pacapod changing bag. This honestly changed my life. Having to evacuate the house all day on a regular basis due to having workmen in, I had to make sure I had everything packed ready for a full day out. This bag has a compartment for everything, it's easy to use when you are changing a baby with one hand and reaching for babywipes with the other, and I can fit everything in it (and I am known to pack the kitchen sink).

Muslin squares. Use them as a lightweight blanket, as a bib, makeshift bedsheet, comforter, teething aid. They're brilliant.

Any fabric toy with one of those washing instruction labels on. The boy is fascinated by them!

I suppose he'll be more interested in the cardboard box than the jumperoo in that case.

He better chuffing like it, cost a small fortune buying it over here!
